Skills
Introduction to skills Skill Level & Progress Skill Degrees
General Skills Class Specific Skills Race Specific Skills
Weapon Proficiencies Spell Proficiencies
Introduction to skills: Skills are just a set of special activities you can perform with your character. The more you practice a skill, the more efficient you become at it.

This sheet shows you the respective skill levels, uses/progress and skill degrees of your skills. Everytime you practice a skill, you become more proficient at it, thus increasing your progress and leading to higher skill level in the feat.

Viewing your skills: Click on Character Stats -> Skills & Proeficiencies

From here, you can click on the images at the top of the screen to view particular skills, and use some of them as well.

Types of skills:

  • General Skills - These include things like Mining, Stonecutting and Enchanting. These skills allow you to undertake specific activities related to the particular skill.
  • Weapon Skills - These skills are known as Weapon Proficencies and allow you to effectively use weapons.
  • Magic Skills - These skills are known as Spell/Magic Proficiencies and allow you to effectively cast spells.

Skill Progress: Also known as Skill Uses, the progress of a skill increment as you practice the skill. When the skill uses reaches its maximum value, it will increment your skill level in the particular skill (as long as your race is capable of learning the skill to the given level). Take the example below in the print screen. Everytime the player steals, whether successful or unsuccessful, his theft skill uses will increment by 1. When the skill uses reach 50 (i.e. the progress bar becomes full), the skill level of the player's theft skill (previously 35) will rise to 36.

Skill Level: As explained above, your skill level in a skill will rise when your progress bar becomes full. In other words, when your skill uses reaches its maximum value, your skill level will increment by 1.

However, keep in mind that your skill level will only increment if your race does not have any maximum skill level limits for the given skill. E.g. Race X has a maximum skill level limit of 25 for the skill Mining. This means that the player will never be able to progress above the skill level of 25, regardless of whether the progress bar is full or not.

Skill Degrees: The effectiveness of all skills is measured by their respective skill degrees. The relevant skill degrees are explained below:

Image Degree Explanation
Not Trained

This is the lowest degree you can achieve in any skill. If you have this degree in a skill, you will not be allowed to practise or use the skill until you find a specialist NPC to teach you the relevant skill.

Note: Regardless of your skill level or uses in a skill, if you have this skill degree in any skill, you will not be able to use it.

Required Skill lvl: N/A

Novice This degree allows you to practise your skills but at a very basic level.

Required Skill lvl: 1

Expert This degree allows you to practise your skills at a high level and dramatically increases the proficiency at which you achieve results using the skill. Most skills will give you access to secondary bonuses at this stage, but this is entirely dependent on the individual skill.

Required Skill lvl: 20

Master This degree allows you to practise your skills at a very high level and exponentially increases the proficiency at which you achieve results using the skill. Most skills will give you access to tertiary bonuses at this stage. Again, this is entirely dependent on the particular skill.

Required Skill lvl: 50

Grand Master This is the ultimate level you can achieve in any given skill. Achieving this degree in any skill is worth praise and increases your status, as well as proficiency in the skill by up to 10 times. Some skills will unlock special abilities for you at this stage.

Required Skill lvl: 100

Depending on your race, you will be able to practice certain skills. However, it is quite possible to hack your spiritual energy through the Training Grounds with the use of Spirit Points. In such a case, you will be able to learn skills your race is not normally capable of learning.

TOP
General Skills: These skills are easy to learn and provide huge benefits to their apprentices, virtually shaping the path and profession of a Zhentonian.

Skill & related professions
Mining

Mining is an essential primary skill that is learnable by almost all of the races. Mining allows adventurers to travel down to the local mines in search of precious and valuable gemstones. These can later be sold for to the shopkeepers for a reasonable price or used in similar professions such as Stonecutting for shaping gemstones into various patterns.

Hint: The higher the skill of a miner, the higher the chance of success. Furthermore, some gemstones can only be found by miners who have a certain level of skill.

Using the skill: Visit a Mine

Theft

Theft is a unique and risky art that uses a mixture of stealth and persuasion techniques to steal items and objects of great value.

Having learnt the Theft skill, a Zhentonian can consider going down the dark risky path and become a master rogue. Be warned though, while stealing can avoid you having to pay huge sums for rare and treasured goods, being caught in the act will sentence you to heavy fines. If you are unable to pay the fines, then you will be sent to jail.

Note: You can only steal one item at a time.

Using the skill: When viewing goods from a store at the City Center, scroll down to the bottom of the page and from the drop down list, select Steal.

Enchantment

Enchantment is a skill that imbues special abilities on non-magical items by use of magical enchantment scrolls. The enchantment skill allows development of the following professions:

[1] Enchantment

Using the skill: Character Sheet -> Skills & Proeficiencies -> Enchant

You can buy enchantment scrolls from a magical library or similar store offering magical goods, and try to imbue the enchantment on an item from the enchantment screen which can be viewed through the skills page. Though a very difficult and risky trade with the chance of breaking or loosing an item, enchanting items proves to be a most useful means of increasing the potential of a non-magical item and making quite a lot of money in return as well.

Skill Degree Bonus
Expert+ 100% chance of success
Master+ 0% Chance of loosing items while enchanting.
G. Master x2 value increment of enchanted item (normally x1.2 increment)

[2] Recharge

Using the skill: Character Sheet -> Skills & Proeficiencies -> Recharge

This skills works in a similar fashion to the Repair skill, with the exception that it deals with magical items, while the repair skill deals with normal items. Basically, this skill allows a character to mend broken magical items such as Wands and increase the number of charges on them as well.

Skill Degree Bonus
Expert+ Ability to recharge Magic Scrolls
Master+ 0% Chance of breaking items while recharging, 100% success rate.
G. Master No penalty to max charges of item (normally, max charge decreases by 10%)

Stonecutting/Stoneworking

Stonecutting is best suited for strong and sturdy hands and requires hard labour. It allows practice of the following professions:

[1] Stonecutting

This professions allows a Zhentonian to work with raw items such as gemstones, and shape them into various patterns, to be later used in Jewelsmithing to imbue special properties in non-magical items..

Using the skill: Character Sheet -> Skills & Proeficiencies -> Shape Gems

Skill Degree Bonus
Expert+ 0% chance of breaking gems while shaping them
Master+ Ability to shape gemstones into the STAR pattern
G. Master 100% success rate in all attempts

[2] Jewelsmithing

Jewelsmithing allows a Zhentonian to fix specially shaped gemstones onto accessories such as weapons, armour and jewelry, granting various magical bonuses.

Each shaped gemstone highlights and brings forth a different magical ability. As of this, each gemstone can be used on various accessories to experiment for different effects and bonuses. Generally, high powered gemstones amplify the bonuses granted.

Skill Degree Bonus
Expert+
  • 0% chance of breaking gems while jewelsmithing
  • Ability to work on weapons and armour
Master+ Ability to fix STAR pattern gemstones onto accessories
G. Master 100% success rate in all attempts

Note: Not all gemstones can be fixed onto each and every accessory, so it will require some patience, and a lot of experimentation to realize the correct combination of shaped gemstones and accessories for the required bonuses.

Using the skill: Character Sheet -> Skills & Proeficiencies -> Jewelsmithing

Brewing

Brewing is a skill of mixing herbs and plants to produce consumables. This ancient skill has been practiced since the primitive times, and the druids have made it their life-long goal to perfect its art. The following professions are unlocked for a player with the brewing skill:

[1] Brewing potions

This profession allows a Zhentonian to make custom potions by following recipes or by trial & error. The potions created can have temporary and permanent effects depending on the type of ingredients used in the brewing process.

Using the skill: Character Sheet -> Skills & Proeficiencies -> Brew

Forge

The Forge skill is another vital skill in Zhentor. A character that has learnt this skill has access to the following professions:

[1] Repairing

This skill allows a character to mend his/her items and increase their duration. Players can repair broken items instead of buying new ones, or open a business and repair other people's items for a set fee. Either way, the profession is quite profitable.

Using the skill: Character Sheet -> Skills & Proeficiencies-> Repair

Initially, a character is only allowed to mend broken items. As the character becomes more proficient at the Forge skill, further bonuses are unlocked.

Skill Degree Bonus
Expert+ Chance of increasing item duration as well as basic repairing
Master+ 0% Chance of breaking items while repairing, 100% success rate.
G. Master No penalty to max duration of item (normally, max duration decreases by 10%).

[2] Blacksmithing

This profession allows a character to craft items made of metal and alloys. Examples of such items include Gauntlets, Armour, Weapons and Labour Tools.

Using the skill: Visit a Blacksmith

To craft items, you need to learn the appropriate Blacksmith Recipes. These recipes can be obtained through quests, lootables from monsters, or from any good recipe store through the City Center. However, you can also try custom combinations at the blacksmith and experiment with different items.

Skill Degree Bonus
Expert+ 100% chance of success
G. Master 100% duration of new crafted item

Leatherworking

Leatherworking is the art of working with leather to craft clothing such as cloaks, gauntlets, shoes and armour. It works in a similar fashion to the Blacksmithing skill, with the only exception being that it is concerned with leather, and not metal and alloys.

Using the skill: (in development)

The skills mentioned above can be changed or edited to provide a better interaction with the game for all users. We are constantly developing new skills so do not for one second think this is it. Not by a long shot!
