Melee Battles, Duels, and Monsters
MELEE Battles PVP Battles Coming soon...

MELEE Battles: Fighting monsters is a great way to earn cool rewards and increase your stats. Throughout the nations of Zhentor, you will face various foul creatures, some of which you will be required to defeat as quests, while others will simply be hunted down for rewards. However not all of these creatures can be tamed easily, and some can cause more harm than good.

How to fight Melee Battles?

To fight melee battles against monsters, you need to find a Battle Arena. One of these can be found in most underground dungeons (try looking for pits or caves from a main city).

What are the rewards?

  • Denars - The main currency of Zhentor. Denars are used for a wide variety of tasks such as buying items, talking to NPCs, traveling, and donating.
  • SP (Spirit Points) - Spirit Points are very hard to gain and valued heavily throughout Zhentor. SP allow for stat upgrades from the Training Grounds .
  • Experience - The amount of experience you get varies from one creature to the next. Experience Points are a vital part of the game and allow you to Level-Up and increase the stats of your character.
  • Special Items - Occasionally monsters may also possess secret and special items that are not available normally in shops. To obtain these items, you must successfully defeat a monster and have a good luck rating. It is not always possible to obtain an item EVEN when the monster possesses one. Monsters can contain special items required to complete certain quests.

What can I use to fight Melee Battles?

TOP

Melee Combat- Weapons: The most common type of attack is through the use of weapons. Weapons inflict various amount of damage depending on their quality, power and weapon type. Some weapons also have special effects (see Equipment & Items section) giving further bonuses and increasing your chance of victory.

Weapons can be bought from the Public Market/City Center, and cheaper still at the Blackmarket. However more powerful items are generally expensive and usually restricted to a certain race or class, so make sure you buy the correct type of weapon that suits you, and one you can use!

Damage Calculation:

The amount of damage inflicted by weapons depends on a variety of stats:

  • The Strength/Might of the character. The higher the stat, the more damage inflicted by the character while using Weapons.
  • The Skill Degree of the character in the appropriate Weapon Proficiency. For example, a character with a skill degree Expert in Sword skill will do more damage with a sword type weapon than a character with a lower skill degree in sword skill, e.g. Novice. The higher the skill degree in the relevant weapon skill, the higher the damage caused by the weapon.

Chance of success when striking:

The chance of success when striking with a weapon depends on the following factors:

  • The Quality of the weapon. Better quality weapons have a higher chance of success when striking.
  • The Melee Attack of the character using the weapon. Higher melee attack ensures better chance of success.
  • The Level of the character using the weapon. The higher the level, the better the chance of success.
  • The Melee Defence of the opponent. The lower the melee defence of the opponent, the higher the chance of success.
  • The Level of the opponent. The lower the level of the opponent, the better the chance of success.
  • + A random luck factor. A 1d60 dice is rolled and result added onto the challenger's roll. If the challenger's roll is higher than the opponent's roll, the weapon will strike.

Tip: Some weapons can drain your HP, MP or Energy, but provide benefits to account for these losses.

Melee Combat -Spells: Spells are an exciting and powerful way to bring your opponents to their knees, trembling with fear. Spells are generally less powerful than your average weapons but provide more exciting ways of inflicting damage, and even invoking certain states upon the opponent that might prove more useful than doing a lot of damage .

View some of the Public shops and you are sure to find something that interests you.

Damage Calculation:

The amount of damage inflicted by spells depends on a variety of factors:

  • The time of day and its effect on your character. Depending on your Karma (alignment), you're stats will be effected. For example, characters with negative karma will have higher attack at night time, while characters with positive karma will have lower attack at night time. The attack modifiers for daytime can be viewed from the City Map screen (near the top middle)
  • The Intelligence of the character. The higher the stat, the more effective the spell.
  • The Skill Degree of the character in the appropriate Magic Proficiency. The higher the skill degree in the relevant magic body the spell belongs to, the more effective it will be when cast.

Chance of success when casting:

The chance of success when casting the spell depends on the following factors:

  • The Magic Attack of the character using the weapon. Higher magic attack ensures better chance of success.
  • The Magic Defence of the opponent. The lower the magic defence of the opponent, the higher the chance of success.
  • The Element of the spell and that of the opponent. If the spell element is the stronger than the opponent's element, it will be twice as effectve. If the element is weaker, it will 30% less effective.
  • + A random luck factor. A 1d50 dice is rolled and result added onto the challenger's roll. If the challenger's roll is higher than the opponent's roll, the weapon will strike.

Tip: Spells require Mana Points to activate. If you have insufficient MP to cast a spell, it might not show up in the battle.

TOP

Potions: Potions are quite underestimated in their usefulness for combat. Potions are very useful items that can be used to regenerate HP, MP & Energy, as well as to provide temporary or permanent effects which may give you the edge you need to defeat your opponent.

Potions can be bought from a wide variety of stores and they are quite cheap and cost-effective as well.

Tip: Some potions can have side effects that show up after some time. Hover your mouse over the potions to see a detailed list of all the temporary and permenant bonuses it offers.

PVP (Player-Vs-Player) Battles: Challenge other warriors at the Battle Tower and put your skills to the limit. Test your power against thousands of other Zhentonians and see where you stand. The more PVP Battles you win, the higher your rank in the prestigious Duelist Rankings System.

How to Duel?

To duel, you must visit the Battle Tower. Battle Towers are usually available in a major city, or in some popular dungeons. Once at the Battle Tower, you can be challenged or challenge a duelist yourself.

To Challenge a player...

  • (1) The player must be in the same zone...
  • (2) The player must be online (stats read over the past 5 minutes)...
  • (3) The player must be alive (i.e. HP greater than 0)...
  • (4) The opponent's level must be greater than your level/2 if you are over level 10, otherwise there is no minimum level limit.
  • (5) Both he challenger and the opponent must have the PVP Duels option enabled (Profile -> Preferences)

During the PVP Duel...

  • (1) You have 3 minutes to complete your turn. If you are unable to complete your turn, the control will be handed over to your opponent (this means that if you suddenly go offline during your duel, your opponent will have great advantage over you).

If you win...

  • (1) You gain Character Reputation points. +1 if you are of a higher level than your opponent, +2 if you are of equal levels, and the difference between levels if you are smaller (defeating much bigger opponents will reward you with higher rep!!!).
  • (2) You gain experience points. 3% of your opponent's experience if you are of a higher level than your opponent, 5% if same, and 7% if smaller.
  • (3) You gain Denars. The higher your level, the more denars you will gain upon victory.

If you loose...

  • (1) You loose Character Reputation points. 0 if you are smaller than your opponent, -1 if you are of equal levels, and -2 if you are bigger.
  • (2) You loose experience points. -3% if you are bigger than your opponent, -5% if same as your opponent and -7% if you are bigger than your opponent.

If you DENY or BREAK a PVP DUEL invitation...

  • (1) Your character will loose 1 Reputation Point. This stops players from declining all duels, for that is not the way of the warrior!

And if you try to ACT SMART and FLEE...

  • (1) Your character will loose 5 Reputation Points. Duelling is not for cowards or cheats!

The more battles you win, the higher your reputation, and the more superior your rank in the Duelist Rankings System.

IN DEVELOPMENT: We are always keen on improving the way the game functions. Amongst the many lined up developments for the future, the Zhentor Development Team is designing an enhanced battle system where multiple battles can be fought simultaneously, sort of like a chessboard. A lot of developments are to come so keep your eyes peeled and show your support by donating a couple of euros! You will receive special items as thanks for your support.
